The Board of Directors of The Choral Arts Society of Washington is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Tucker, current P.E. Browning Director of Choral Music at Cornell University, as its new artistic director, effective with the 2012-2013 season. Tucker was selected after a rigorous 12-month international search to replace retiring artistic director and founder Norman Scribner. The Board voted unanimously and enthusiastically to confirm Tucker’s appointment.

The Choral Arts Society of Washington announces the CD release of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand, in which Choral Arts performs with the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Recorded live at St. Paul’s Cathedral in July 2008 under the baton of the LSO’s Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev, the CD was recorded during two sold-out concerts performed as part of the City of London Festival. London’s Evening Standard said in its recent review, “Gergiev caught the crucial moment of expectation to perfection. But in the end it was the shattering power of several hundred voices, an expanded orchestra and full cathedral organ that delivered the mightiest of Mahler’s symphonies with the sonic splendor it demands.”

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with a program featuring the Treasures from the Great Operas, along with the Spring movement from Franz Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons.
The operatic repertoire will include the Prologue in Heaven from Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele, plus beloved familiar works by Verdi, Delibes, Gounod, Giordano, and Lehar.
