Voices: A Teacher’s Guide is an arts-integrated curriculum designed to help any teacher integrate music into a study of the Civil Rights Movement by using the materials found in the publication Voices: Reflections on An American Icon through Words and Song.  While the arts may be declining in your school in terms of the number of courses offered or the number of specialists available, you as the classroom teacher can take simple steps to ensure that music is not absent from the lives of your students.  You need not have a musical background to implement these music-integrated lessons; any vocabulary you might need is provided for you.  These lessons primarily focus on music listening and response exercises that can be done with no music equipment beyond the Voices CD and a CD player.  Preview selections from the Teacher’s Guide online here.
