The CASW vocal quartet teaches artsACCESS students the foundation of musical groups including the four vocal types (soprano alto, tenor, bass) and four ways of forming a musical ensemble (solo, duet, trio, quartet).

Ms. Flood teaches students aspects of music composition such as scales, song writing and performance. In addition, students are
introduced to the world of jazz through scat.

Angela Mullins, flute
Ms. Mullins draws connections between music and written language. Students are asked to think about how music helps to tell a story. Older students focus on flutes from around the world and learn about how geography, history and culture, affect music.

Devonna Rowe, soprano
Ms. Rowe introduces African folk songs and stories to artsACCESS classrooms in an effort to teach the relationship between music, patterns and sequences


Joanne Schmoll, soprano
In the classroom, Ms. Schmoll explores the relationship between music and drama. In addition, older grades explore how music has effected a variety of different people including American women and African Americans.

David Simmons, baritone
Mr. Simmons explores traditional folk songs of the United States and how music is a part of all cultures. In addition to his contribution to the artsACCESS classroom, Mr. Simmons authored the sixth grade artsACCESS curriculum in the summer
of 2004.

Sylvia Swi, singer/composer
Sylvia explores the connection between music and math and how math can be used in chants and songs.
