Meet-the-Artist
The Meet-the-Artist program provides inner-city DC students the opportunity to meet and work with acclaimed soloists who perform with CASW. CASW strives to provide students with oppurtunities to meet soloists who are positive role models and who exemplify the potential for minority achievement. For many students, this is their only exposure to the world of professional music, in particular, choral music. Part Meet-the-Artist events have included seminars with:

Dencye Graves, mezzo soprano

addressed vocal technique and performance

Glenn Burleigh, composer

addressed students on preparation for a career in music.

Carl Tanner, Metropolitan Opera, tenor

conducted a master class in which he performed, critiqued student performances, and spoke about his career as a professional singer.

Linda MaGuire, mezzo-soprano

Student Study Guides

Since the spring of 1994, CASW has written and produced study guides which correspond to each of the season’s regular performances. These guides are distributed to 600 Partner High School students and teachers before each concert. Study guides may include biographical information pertaining to the composer, as well as repertory and historical facts about the time period of the music. Click on the links below to download pdf copies of the study guides from past season’s performances. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the study guides. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed, download a free copy here.

Dress Rehearsal Attendance
Students from participating partner high schools are invited to attend dress rehearsals for CASW concerts. In addition, students may be invited to partake in workshops with chorus members or Associate Conductor Joseph Holt prior to attending dress rehearsals in an effort to teach partner school students more about CASW or provide additional information about the works being performed at the concert.

Complimentary Tickets and Student Ticket Discounts
Partner High Schools are offered complimentary tickets to selected concerts throughout the season. Additionally, CASW sells discounted tickets to all high school and college level students regardless of the student’s participation in the PHS program.
